The Emerald City
Recently, many corporations and communities have embraced the sustainability movement. Significant effort has gone into researching and planning sustainability campaigns and the buzz phrase of the 2008 Presidential Election was “green jobs”. With green jobs and green technology at the forefront of American development, the city of Syracuse has established itself as a leader in these respective industries. Already labeled as one of the top 50 greenest cities in America, Syracuse has rebranded itself from “The Salt City” to “The Emerald City” in an attempt to further solidify its reknown as a hub for green development. With this change comes the challenge of ensuring that Syracuse remains dedicated to establishing the sustainable policies that it is now workign to develop.
Community activisim is the most resourceful way of ensuring that the city maintains its place as a leader in sustainable development. Through conversations with other concerned citizens and educated dialogue with community officials, we can ensure that Syracuse continues to be a sustainable community.
